Qualification Overview

Course Description

This qualification provides a trade outcome in wall and floor tiling for residential and commercial construction work. The qualification has core unit of competency requirements that cover common skills for the construction industry, as well as the specialist field of work, wall and floor tiling. Tilers work with materials like ceramic, glass, slate, marble and clay. They cut these materials and lay tiles on walls and floors, both interior and exterior. They may also add decorative touches to their basic work.

Occupational titles may include:
Tiler
Wall and Floor tiler.

This qualification is suitable for an Australian apprenticeship pathway.

Completion of the general construction induction training program, specified in the Safe Work Australia model Code of Practice: Construction Work, is required by anyone carrying out construction work. Achievement of CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)/Credit Transfer (CT)

Vocational Skills Australia(VSA) will offer Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer (CT) to all prospective students through the enrolment process. VSA has documented policies and procedures for these processes and students are provided details of how to apply for RPL or Credit Transfer through the enrolment process. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Academic Requirement Satisfactory completion of Australian Year 12 or equivalent. (for International Students—satisfactory completion of studies in applicant’s home country equivalent to an Australian Year 12 qualification is required for entry).
Age Requirement Students must be a minimum age of 18 years or above at the time of course commencement.
English Proficiency Requirements Minimum IELTS score of 6.0 or equivalent. For equivalent English Language proficiency testing scores, and other forms of equivalency please refer to the student handbook.
OR
A minimum of two (2) years of study at an AQF Level 4 or higher completed in Australia.
Pre-Training Review All learners will undertake an initial skills assessment to determine suitability for the course and student needs. The review aims to identify their training needs through questions on previous education or training, the relevance of the course and relevant experience. This pre-training review also aims to identify any support needs and possible RPL or credit transfer opportunities.
Language Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) All students will be required to complete an LLN assessment prior to the commencement of the course. Vocational Skills Australia uses LLN robot platform for the assessment.
All reports, training supplements and recommendations are generated by the LLN Robot system after comparing the learner’s ACSF profile to the profile of this course.
Hardware/Software requirements For students to work on assessments, tasks and self-study all learners are expected to have access to a laptop or computer with windows operating system and office application like Microsoft word at their own cost. Where needed, Vocational Skills Australia will provide access of computers/laptops with appropriate configurations for students to complete their study at the campus.

Packaging rules

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must demonstrate competency in:

  • 20 units of competency:
    • 17 core units
    • 3 elective units.

Electives must be selected as follows:

  • all three units from the electives listed below, or
  • two units from the electives listed below, plus one unit selected from any current training package or accredited course as long as it contributes to a valid, industry-supported vocational outcome, maintains the integrity of the AQF level of this qualification and does not duplicate the outcome of another unit used to achieve this qualification.
